The power of pause
Finding success through self-connection
STOP. Breathe. Connect. Look within.
We live in a world that constantly pushes us to move faster, do more, follow what everyone else is doing. We see someone successful on social media and immediately think:
"That's what I should be doing too."
Before we know it, we're hiring people to help us with strategies we don't fully understand, investing time and energy into paths that don't truly resonate with our souls, and feeling frustrated when the results don't materialize.
I was sitting with someone very special to me last week, someone very successful in her field. For 20-30 years, she's built an incredible career – a full clinic, no shortage of patients, published books.
Yet there she was, overwhelmed and frustrated.
She had hired people to help with social media, recording videos, building her online presence – and nothing was converting. Money, time, and energy were flowing out, but the results weren't flowing in.
As I listened to her struggles, I recognized a pattern I've seen countless times. We get caught shooting in every direction, hiring people we think can help us, and then feeling disappointed when they don't deliver what we want.
But the truth is, they can't deliver clarity for us.
That has to come from within.
I invited her to pause and simply said, "It seems social media isn't what you should be focusing on right now. Why don't you just stop?"
I could see immediate relief wash over her face – until her mind kicked in with all the questions. "But how will I sell my books? Shouldn't I be posting? Maybe I just need to hire someone different?"
The real issue wasn't her social media.
It was that she hadn't clarified who exactly she wanted to serve in this new way she is creating.
She works with parents and children, but her focus was too broad – from pregnancy through teenage years. She couldn't understand why her message wasn't resonating, but how could it? If one day she's talking about sexuality conversations with 13-year-olds, a parent of a 3-year-old with sleep issues won't see her as their expert. And vice versa.
We often make this mistake – we start working on the surface level (tactics, strategies, marketing) before doing the deep internal work of focusing and clarifying.
We look outside for solutions when the answers need to come from within.
My advice to her was radical but necessary: "Fire your social media assistant. Don't record any more videos right now. Go on a solo retreat to a gorgeous Airbnb on top of a mountain – just you and yourself – and listen to what's truly calling you. Stop looking outside to see how you're going to serve. Ask within, allow your divine connection to guide you."
If that connection isn't well established, if that clarity isn't aligned in your soul, body, and mind, all the professionals you hire will simply reflect your own confusion.
They become mirrors showing you where you're blocking your own flow because you're not willing to pause, listen to yourself, and take the courage to say no to what doesn't connect with your soul.
I was reminded of another conversation I had with a family member who's making a beautiful transition in her career. Last year, she had to say no to many well-paid projects from her existing business because she wanted to complete a non-paid internship to learn about sustainable construction. Her income was the lowest it had been in years, but she had clarity of intention.
The result? When 2025 arrived and she was ready to put herself out there, her first project was the highest-paying of her entire career – perfectly aligned with her desires, combining her previous business skills with her new certification and passion for sustainable building.
This is what happens when we accumulate the power of "no" – it eventually gives birth to a tremendous "yes" that falls into our lap. But this requires tremendous courage.
It requires trust in the process of looking within.
We forget that true service comes from this divine connection. We think we need to be constantly looking outward, taking more courses, following what others are doing. But if we're not willing to pause and listen to ourselves, we'll never find the clarity we need.
This is my invitation to you: Take the time to clarify within yourself how you truly want to serve. Who are the people that make your heart expand when you think about helping them? Where are you qualified to guide others? What lights you up inside when you imagine doing it?
Your unique power comes from your ability to listen to that inner voice, to honor what makes you different, to embrace what might even make you feel "weird" to others. When we finally stop trying to fit in and instead focus on what truly resonates within us, that's when the magic happens.
So before you hire that next coach, invest in that next strategy, or follow that next trend – STOP. Connect with yourself first.
The answers you seek are already within you, waiting for you to get quiet enough to hear them.
