I got a little emotional reading this post. I knew that I was a part of you taking a look at Substack, but seeing how transformational that was got to me. I am so grateful to have been apart of this journey for you and love how you have taken the time to acknowledge the amazing people that have been a part of this journey for you. So many names listed here have been an influence on mine as well. I cannot wait to witness the impact you create this year.
Just devoured that article on Phil's recommendation, Landon. Well-deserved. Excellent breakdown mapping beginner >>> Hardcore levels. Great perspective, and so much compassion. Thanks. -kris
Yes to this! It's exactly the element that drove me away from Twitter (when it still was called that).
Not having to "dumb down" or overly simplify concepts for the audience, and having an audience that prefers depth over "quick hits" is what makes this platform truly one of a kind.
Congrats on the great, intentional growth you've had over the past year!
Thanks so much for including me in this post, Phil. I'm grateful and surprised to know that my move her was an influence for you.
I've had a hard time responding to this one because, to be honest, I feel like I'm just getting into a groove with Substack. I knew from the beginning that it'd be a great audience/community move - and it's absolutely where I wanted to be - but I wasn't sure it was going to be a good business/economic move.
Here recently, though, I've figured out how Substack and my creator playstyle actually work well together. Less "how are people using Substack?", more "how am I going to roll the way I do at Substack?" I'm having a lot more fun and growing much faster on the free side.
So: audience/community move - check.
The next couple of quarters will be more focused on answering the business/economic question. We'll see. :)
Really loved this article. Such a deep dive into what works. Your writing is excellent as well! Thanks for the great memories working with you and Charlie in Costa Rica. Excited to reconnect and go deep on this Wednesday's Sacred Biz Stories. 🙏🏼❤️🔥
This is such a powerful post and, I'm sure, so incredibly helpful to so many on this platform. I love seeing your journey and story laid out in this way. And so honored to be part of it. I so appreciate the mention too. I'm deeply grateful for the work you and Carolina do and the constantly evolving ways you find to show up and be of service. Thank you, thank you.

"Long-form writing allows for nuance."
