The Death of Delayed Living: Choose Now
When this happens, then I will…” is how we quietly postpone everything that matters
It can look like good planning, being careful, responsible, well prepared.
But more often than not, it’s not planning at all.
It’s a slow way of dying to what you were born to live. A pattern that’s begging to be broken.
Every time you say, “When this happens, then I will…”, pay attention.
Because it might be fear disguised as planning.
How often do we hear things like:
When I retire, then I’ll travel the world.
When I buy a house, then I’ll have kids.
When I sell my business, then I’ll dedicate more time to helping others.
When my partner retires, then we’ll move to nature.
When I get one more client, then I’ll go back to therapy.
When January arrives, then I’ll finally dedicate time to my business.
When I finish this client project, then I’ll finally start my own thing.
When my website is perfect, then I’ll write a book.
When my schedule is lighter, then I’ll record the meditation series.
When I have a bigger audience, then I’ll share the real story.
When I make consistent income, then I’ll hire the support I need.
When I’m less tired, then I’ll meditate.
When I have a proper morning routine, then I’ll start journaling again.
When my body feels better, then I’ll go back to yoga.
When my kids are older, then I’ll take time for myself.
When I find the right partner, then I’ll soften.
When I have more time, then I’ll call my friends.
When things calm down, then I’ll spend a weekend with my parents.
When I move to nature, then I’ll slow down.
When I’m more confident, then I’ll teach that workshop.
When I understand my niche better, then I’ll launch the offer.
When the timing feels right, then I’ll trust my intuition.
When I’m clearer, then I’ll pray, meditate, surrender.
And then what?
Some of these might sound like planning, but I’m here to tell you: most of them are excuses to avoid being in touch with the life that truly matters.
We sabotage ourselves the most when something really matters to us.
It’s a form of protection… if you long for love, it feels safer to stay in the longing than to risk losing it.
So unconsciously, you delay the action that could actually fulfill the desire.
We all do this in different ways — some louder, some quieter — but every version is a way of keeping ourselves half-alive
That emptiness you feel, that subtle ache for more? or maybe not even subtle…
It’s because the part of you that lives after the “then I will” is already here. It’s ready now.
Your body can feel it, your heart desires it… but your mind is still trapped in the conditioning of postponing happiness.
It’s a pattern we learned early.
We were taught that joy comes after — after the work, after the achievement, after proving ourselves.
We learned to equate happiness with deserving.
So even when life opens, the nervous system whispers: Wait. Not yet. We’re not ready.
But happiness isn’t a reward, it’s a frequency, only available now.
And the moment you allow it before everything is “figured out,” something shifts.
Control loses its grip. And that can feel like death to the ego.
Even when all the conditions are finally met, you sell your house, you have mornings free, you get the new job, you have more money, your partner is retired, your body feels better, your niche feels clear — you create new conditions.
Delaying again. Dimming your own light again.
We understand conceptually that only now exists.
But understanding and embodying are two different things.
Have you ever lost someone you love?
Faced death?
Lost something important to you?
That’s life screaming at you — wake up.
Feel it in your bones: only now is real.
This life will never repeat itself.
And here’s the secret no one tells you:
You’ll never feel ready for what truly matters.
Readiness is not the door you walk through, it’s the ground that forms under your feet once you’ve already stepped.
So instead of saying, “When I retire, then I’ll travel the world,”
say: I’ll travel… and start planning how to make it possible now.
Instead of, “When I have more money, then I’ll rest,”
say: I’ll rest now… and let that rest show me new ways to create abundance.
Instead of, “When my business feels stable, then I’ll share my truth,”
say: I’ll share my truth now… and let that be the stability I was waiting for.
This is what it means to embody — with your whole being — that only now matters.
We’re nearing the end of 2025.
Maybe you already have a list of what you’ll do in 2026.
And if you’re honest, many of those things were on your 2025 list too.
So why wait more? Start now.
You know that “I’ll start the gym on Monday” energy?
That’s the same pattern.
It’s so common that it feels normal, but it shouldn’t be.
We’re not here to postpone life.
We’re here to live it. And we can only do that now.
You know that business idea that’s been whispering in your heart for years?
That desire to help others that won’t leave you alone? The desire to write a book?
What can you do today?
give it a title??
Write a letter of commitment?
If you’ve been holding something hostage to a “when,” stop.
Break the pattern now. Choose differently.
And keep choosing that.
You might find your new life, or your new business, arrives before you feel ready.
Before you retire.
Before you quit your job.
Before your kids grow.
And that’s when it happens, life meets you in motion, and everything you were waiting for begins to unfold.
With Love,
Carolina
