Your Plan B Is Killing Your Plan A
It's not about your job status. It's about where your mind goes when things get hard
One of my greatest gifts was to not have a Plan B.
For years, I’ve told my story — to our audience, our community, and even to friends — and I always added, “I don’t recommend this to anyone.”
But recently, I paused to reflect on that, and honestly, I do recommend it.
I wasn’t being fully authentic.
I was trying to protect others from the same risk that shaped me. But now, I wish that for everyone who truly desires to build something that matters.
Having a Plan B doesn’t make you smart - it reveals you don’t actually believe in yourself.
It becomes the cane that keeps you standing in the same place for years, if not your whole life.
So I ask you: what do you truly want? It has to matter to you. It has to be deeply important — otherwise, you won’t risk putting your old life on the line.
When I quit my corporate job, I had only a couple of months covered financially. I also had to sign a document stating I wouldn’t be re-hireable for at least a year. It was terrifying.
But my desire to walk that path of self-discovery and have my own business was bigger than the fear of staying the same — of playing safe forever.
Looking back, I see the beauty of that choice.
I made a decision: I would have my business, and I would give all of me to it — my time, energy, money, attention, thoughts, my heart. All of me.
Now wonder about this: If you were a venture capitalist and someone came to you with YOUR work ethic, YOUR consistency, YOUR energy over the last ninety days - would you invest in them?
Be honest. Would you write that check?
Because if you wouldn’t invest in yourself, you don’t actually believe in yourself. And that’s the real problem.
The root of most stagnant businesses isn’t lack of talent or opportunity - it’s lack of belief. And lack of belief itself isn’t even the problem.
The real problem is pretending you believe.
Repeating to yourself that you’re all in when your actions show you’re still holding back.
That gap is what creates frustration, overthinking, endless loops of self-doubt. Life isn’t withholding from you - it’s mirroring the energy you’re sending out.
Here’s what psychology and neuroscience confirm: Your brain doesn’t distinguish between what you SAY you believe and what your ACTIONS prove you believe. Each time you follow through, your nervous system learns to trust you. Each time you hesitate, it learns you’re not serious.
Belief or disbelief - both compound.
You might not even realize you keep proving to yourself that your business won’t work, simply by repeating the same actions that don’t create results and never questioning the root of it — the belief within you.
You keep playing small, playing safe, hoping that life will surprise you with some magic that deep down you don’t even believe is possible.
If this is your calling, playing safe will always feel wrong. You’ll always feel like you’re coasting, waiting, circling the edge of what you know you could become.
Life is waiting for you to decide: do you want it or not? And if you do, sacrifice is necessary.
It’s good to pause and check your belief system, as it’s part of your foundation.
Some questions that could help you:
How many years have you been telling yourself it’s not the right time yet? What will be different in three more years if you don’t change now?
Are you using your family as an excuse - telling yourself you’re being responsible when you’re actually just scared they’ll see you fail?
Do you look at others’ success and assume they must have something you don’t - instead of admitting they simply committed harder than you have?
Do you keep gathering information instead of making a decision because you’re hoping to find evidence that you won’t have to risk anything?
Do you pray for clarity but avoid the actions that would actually test your faith?
Every day, you are the investor. Your time, attention, and energy are the currency. Are you putting in minimal investment while expecting maximum returns?
We often hear stories of people who hit rock bottom or reached a breaking point — moments when they decided they would no longer tolerate average — and that single decision changed everything. They reached a point where there was nowhere else to go except following their hearts, because their minds were completely lost. That’s pure surrender, that’s like not having a Plan B.
I think it will always feel scary. The unknown triggers the mind. But doing the inner work to align your energy with what you say you want — that’s how you strengthen your belief system.
Life is mirroring your energy back to you. Every time you say “not yet,” life says “okay, not yet.” Every time you split your focus, life splits its support. This isn’t punishment - it’s physics.
Start studying people who already live what you desire. Read their stories. Notice what they believed, how they acted, what they were willing to risk. Visit your own vision more often. Write about it. Feel it. Walk as if it’s already true. And decide, commit to your vision that you will allow that to emerge through you, no matter what.
The universe responds to commitment, not interest.
When you burn the boats, when you remove the escape route, that’s when everything shifts. Because YOU shift. You stop being someone who’s “trying” to build a business.
You become someone who HAS a business and is figuring it out.
And remember — the first step is to admit that you don’t fully believe yet. Because if you did, you’d probably already be living it.
P.S.: This isn’t about quitting your job. It’s about removing the mental escape route. You can keep your job and burn the boats. You can leave your job and still have a Plan B.
The question is: where does your mind go when things get hard? Back to ‘maybe I should just...’ or forward to ‘how do I make this work?’
With Love,
Carolina
