Sometimes people keep repeating familiar patterns even after their external circumstances change. Expansion can really feel destabilizing when identity is built around survival strategies that once worked.

The nervous system prioritizes predictability over growth, even when growth is wanted and learning to tolerate unfamiliar internal states can be a slower process than adopting new goals or structures.
